Since Microsoft announced they are ending the sale of RemoteApp, a significant segment of the industry has been left asking; “What does this mean?” “What do we do next?”
To understand some more about the impact of this change let’s look at a favorite scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, to help find the next step forward.
As the scene opens we find the mortician beating his triangle, yelling “Bring out your dead!”. Upon being approached by a customer he offers a price for his services, and just as the transaction is about complete, the Dead Person shouts “I’m not dead!”.
We find current marketing trends to be disturbingly similar, as cloud providers push the market towards killing their own hardware and premise based software.
As this push has continued we find customers, software providers, and various industries saying “I’m not dead”. Despite this, the big corporations continue to argue by saying “Well, it soon will be, it’s very ill”.
On August 12th, Microsoft announced End Of Life for RemoteApp. Providers and software companies who rely on this service have been crying “I don’t want to go on the cart!”. Microsoft has offered vague statements about replacing the application software with a new solution in 2017, but, just like the Dead Person, we’re all trying to avoid a whop over the head from the mortician and being dumped on the cart.
